Chapter 2: Sankhya Yoga

The Yoga of Knowledge · 72 verses

Krishna begins his teaching, revealing the eternal nature of the soul, the impermanence of the body, and the path of selfless action (Karma Yoga).

BG 2.13

देहिनोऽस्मिन्यथा देहे कौमारं यौवनं जरा

dehino 'smin yathā dehe kaumāraṁ yauvanaṁ jarā

As the embodied soul passes through childhood, youth and old age in this body, so it passes into another body at death. The wise are not deluded by this.

BG 2.47

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन

karmaṇy-evādhikāras te mā phaleṣu kadācana

You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but never to its fruits. Let not the results be your motive, nor be attached to inaction.

BG 2.48

योगस्थः कुरु कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा धनञ्जय

yoga-sthaḥ kuru karmāṇi saṅgaṁ tyaktvā dhanañjaya

Perform your duty established in yoga, O Arjuna, abandoning attachment and remaining even-minded in success and failure. Such equanimity is called yoga.
